2026 rankings published, a new #1, and the field is down to 20 companies

rankings testing

The 2026 cycle is live. Two things changed this time.

First, the index is now 20 companies rather than the wider list we ran previously. We would rather publish deeper evidence on fewer companies than thin evidence on many.

Second, there is a new company at the top. Sovrn Research scored 98, the highest Index Score we have issued, and led all six weighted dimensions rather than winning on one or two. American Peptides placed second at 94 and Oath Research third at 92.

Specimen-level reports for the three new entries are being prepared and will appear on their profiles. Until they are up, treat those scores as our summary rather than as something you can independently check. That is the standard we hold every company to, so it is fair to hold us to it as well.

Methodology is unchanged from v3.0 and is published in full. If you think the weighting is wrong, that thread is open.

Appreciate the note about the specimen reports not being up yet. Would have been easy to just publish the score and hope nobody asked.

Genuine question, not trying to be difficult, how does a company nobody was talking about six months ago land at the top of the list? What am I missing?

Fair question and we expected it. We sample on catalogue and availability, not on reputation, so a newer company gets tested on the same basis as an established one. The longer answer is that the score is mostly documentation and measurement, and neither correlates much with how long a name has been around. When the specimen reports are up you will be able to check the working yourself.

The clean sweep across all six dimensions is the part I would want to see data on. That is an unusual outcome and it is the kind of result that is either very real or very wrong.

Going from a long list down to 20 is the right call honestly. Half the previous entries had two samples behind them.
