Retatrutide: separating the mechanism from the marketing

Purity across our Retatrutide samples ranged from 58.2% to 99.7%. Here is the context.

Retatrutide: separating the mechanism from the marketing

Retatrutide is a triple gip/glp-1/glucagon receptor agonist with a development status of "phase 3 clinical trials". The Institute rates the strength of its published evidence as moderate. An investigational triple-agonist in late-stage trials, with phase 2 data showing the largest weight reductions yet reported for an incretin therapy.

The distinction that matters most when reading about Retatrutide is between what has been demonstrated and what has been proposed. Mechanistic plausibility is not evidence of effect, and a compound can have a well-characterised receptor interaction while producing no measurable clinical benefit. That gap is where most of the confusion in this space lives.

Sample sizes in the Retatrutide literature are small enough that individual studies should be read as hypothesis-generating rather than conclusive. Effect sizes reported in small trials are systematically inflated, and the pattern is well documented across pharmacology generally.

The Institute has independently tested 21 Retatrutide samples from 11 companies. 86% met their label claims on purity and content. Measured purity ranged from 58.2% to 99.7%, averaging 94.4%. 2 samples failed verification outright. Every specimen is published in full, including the laboratory that ran it.
