BPC-157 is a stable pentadecapeptide originally isolated as a fragment of a protective protein found in human gastric juice. It has become one of the most discussed research peptides, largely on the strength of a substantial body of rodent studies examining soft-tissue and gastrointestinal repair.
The overwhelming majority of published evidence comes from animal models. Human clinical data remains extremely limited, and no regulatory authority has approved BPC-157 for any therapeutic use. In 2023 the FDA placed BPC-157 in Category 2 of substances with safety concerns for compounding, which continues to shape its regulatory situation.
Independent testing matters for this compound: because BPC-157 is widely sold as a research chemical, purity and quantity vary meaningfully between suppliers. The Peptide Institute has tested BPC-157 samples from seven companies to date.
